MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 54-year-old Franklin Township man died early Friday after a crash on South Black Horse Pike in Monroe Township, Gloucester County, according to police. Two other people were hurt, but their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The collision happened just after midnight near East Malaga Road. Monroe Township police said the dead man was driving a white Maserati westbound when a red Toyota pulled out from the Walmart parking lot and entered the roadway.
Police said the Maserati struck the rear of the Toyota as it merged into the westbound lane. The force of the impact caused the Maserati to roll over multiple times and eject the driver.
How police say the crash unfolded near East Malaga Road
Investigators said the Toyota was driven by a 33-year-old Woodstown man. A passenger was also in the car. Police said the Toyota was exiting the Walmart lot on Black Horse Pike when the crash happened.
According to police, the Toyota entered South Black Horse Pike and moved into the westbound lane. At that point, the front of the Maserati hit the back of the Toyota. The crash scene was in the area of South Black Horse Pike and East Malaga Road.
The account released by police makes clear that the impact was severe enough to send the Maserati into a rollover. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the Maserati driver only as a 54-year-old man from Franklin Township. They did not release his name. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected during the rollover, according to authorities.
The rollover involved numerous turns, police said. That detail suggests the crash was violent enough to cause the luxury sedan to overturn more than once before coming to rest.
